Ted Younglas
Born and raised on a farm in northeast Ohio, Ted grew up in poverty, often skipping field trips and school events so his parents wouldn't have to face the heartbreak of saying they couldn't afford them. This firsthand experience sparked an early passion for education and a fierce belief that school should be a positive, accessible experience for every single child. Chasing this vision, he worked his way through college, earning both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan University.
Ted launched his career with Plymouth-Canton Community Schools in 1997, dedicating 11 years to teaching 7th-grade Social Studies and twice earning recognition as the Detroit News Teacher of the Week. He then spent 13 years serving as an Assistant Principal at both the middle and high school levels before taking the helm as Principal of East Middle School, where he has served for the past six years. Throughout his 28-year journey in education, Ted has made it his personal mission to create an inclusive culture where learning is fun, engaging, and barrier-free.
After decades on the front lines, Ted saw too many passionate educators burn out running low-yield fundraisers that failed to move the needle for their students. He co-founded Care Tickets to bridge that gap, turning standard school events into high-earning, effortless engines that fund the student experience. By combining his deep understanding of school budgets with his lifelong mission, Ted ensures that no student has to miss out on the moments that matter most.
Dr. Samuel Augustus
Raised in poverty in Brooklyn before unforeseen circumstances relocated his family to Canada, Sam learned the value of hard work early, taking on his first job at just 12 years old. He always dreamed big, though he grew up unable to afford the experiences he loved, including sports gear memorabilia and collectables.
This quickly prompted him to write heartfelt letters to his favorite teams out of pure fandom. Miraculously, teams began sending back signed memorabilia, sparking a lifelong obsession with collecting.
Eventually his mandatory high school volunteer work led him to the YMCA. It was there, mentoring after-school youth who had nowhere else to go, that Sam fell deeply in love with community organizing and lifting up the next generation.
Years later, when his daughter started middle school, Sam joined the school community. He was determined to bond with her and make a real difference for her heavily underfunded campus, where 40% of the students relied on meal assistance. At East Middle School his path crossed with Principal Ted Younglas...
Together they realized they could use Sam's world-class memorabilia passion to create mind-blowing experiences that inspire these kids to dream big.
How Everything Changed
By shifting the fundraising model from boring to blockbuster, they infused pure excitement into the school while generating massive financial support from the parents and community. Even after his daughter graduated three years later, Sam realized the impact they were making was too important to leave behind. What started as a personal mission to support his daughter’s school had grown into a revolutionary blueprint for campus culture.
In the first year alone East Middle School was finally able to fund new basketball uniforms that were 3 years overdue, the art program replenshed all its supplies, and the surround sound system in the cafetoriume was replaced. After years of postponing due to drastic underfunding, the school not only caught up on the necessities, but they raised enough to genuinely enrich life for the students, staff, and the campus itself.
Driven by that same spark from the kid from Brooklyn who just wanted a chance to connect with his heroes, Sam founded Care Tickets to scale this engine and elevate underfunded schools nationwide.
